There are many ways to make extra money. However,
there is one overriding consideration today: making extra money for most
people today is not an option.
For the most part, all of us have cut our expenses to the bone. For many people, maybe most people, even quantity as well as quality of food has been cut to the point where we are not getting the right food and nutrition to maintain a safe nutrition level. As things get worse, the only way for things to get better are for things to change. And, only you are going to make that happen. So, making extra income is not only not just an option, it is also the only solution. When things hit hard for us, we held garage sales each and every week-end. But, garage sales bring out only those who won't pay more than a few small pennies on the dollar. So, selling your stuff is really not an option. Besides, once it's gone, then what? II have a friend who is a tremendous baker. She turned that into a small business supplying local eateries with fantastic pies. Problem is, she had to get up at 3 am every day to bake the pies then deliver them before she headed off to work. However, the eateries, themselves, aren't doing all that well. So, they forced her into low-balling the price for her pies. Once we factored in the true cost of baking the pies, she was making extra money at a rate of $1.75 per hour while driving her health into the ground. Fortunately, she knows me. Another friend decided to turn her home into a Bed & Breakfast. However, it's not as easy as that may sound. There are municipal laws, rules, and regulations with which the home had to be brought up to grade. Even though it was a new home, it was not built for commercial use... especially as it involves people. She has faced the huge costs of upgrades for the purpose of serving the public as well as public safety. And, she has faced some stiff fines for violations despite apparently following all the regulations. From experience, running a B&B is not easy. The hours are very long. You need a certain temperament. It is extremely difficult to get a foothold in the hospitality market. And, the pay sucks. Then, there is the internet. Pay a small fee and you can set yourself up for any of a thousand scams where the small fee is the front end to a constant pay out for upgrades to the better programs... one of which work. For the one-in-a-hundred thousand who actually makes a worthwhile living, most make no more than $20 dollars a day. And, that could be taxable. There are other things you can do. I was a part-time editor and copywriter. That didn't contribute much. I was asked to tutor English. But, I really don't have the patience. Our son is an excellent artist. He tutored art students at a local college. Bottom line: it cost him more than he was being paid. Make extra money almost always involves working for people who don't have any money themselves or the willingness to pay you. But, maybe that's all you need or want. And, that's okay. The problem is: the problem of not enough money doesn't go away. If fact, as the economy sinks further and further, the problem gets only worse. When I came into this business, I came in as a customer only. Actually, when I came in as a customer, yes!, I wanted better products. But, I also was on a mission to cut my household costs... just as you are. I found myself talking to my other cash-strapped friends just a little bit at first about not just the money I was saving, but also how much better the products were than those with which I replaced them. And, my friends started buying them. Hey! Wait a minute. Isn't that a business model? And, that's when making extra money came into play for me. Now, it's my only income and growing for me as it is for many people with me, many whom I don't even know. But, I know I have changed their lives... forever! Give it some thought.
